Underwater exploration fun
Dive Divine Warm waters and excellent facilities make underwater exploration fun Two years ago I went on a diving trip to Oman and there is much to do overthere. If you are the adventurous type. You can do desert and mountain trekking, abseil and explore caves. That much is well known. But what is known only to a few is that the Gulf country also offers excellent underwater diving opportunities. From dramatic wall drop-offs to scenic coral lined fjords, ranging in depth from 6m to 40m, the Sultanate provides abundant underwater thrills. Divers can see underwater intact corals and several varieties of fish. Sperm whales are sometimes seen off Fahal Island, one of six major dive areas off the country's coast. Rays, turtles and dolphins are also common, while sharks are seen occasionally. The clear, warm sea conditions, with an average visibility of 12m, allow for easy exploration of one of the best undiscovered marine sanctuaries in the world. The Arabian Sea diving experience is different. The average temperatures in the ocean exceed 28 deg C even in cooler months like November and December. So you will feel warm and comfortable under water. A simple full-bodied wet suit is sufficient for most people. The best time to dive is between November and February because visibility goes up and you get to see more sharks and dolphins. Diving in Oman offers the thrills that you would normally find in the waters of Puerto Rico and the serenity you would experience in the atolls of Bahamas. You will also enjoy some of the best cuisine in the world. Key Dive Site DIMANIYYAT ISLANDS These tiny islands lie about 18km off the main coase and are Oman's only marine reserve. Diving here is spectacular. BANDAR JUSSA Offers five excellent dive sites, with wonderful corals and boulders to swim around. CAT ISLAND Small sharks often cruise among the shallow rocks, and you are likely to see a number of stingrays. CEMETERY BAY The rock shores are lined with corals, which reach about five metres in diameter and are more than 100years old. FAHAL ISLAND The bays cotain different types of hard and soft corals. The more adventurous can swim through and explore a wreck. RAS ABU DAOUD Offers a delightful swim through where you have to literally push the fish out of the way. You can also spot the wreck of the ship MS Mimoona at Quriyat.
